Almost a week after the canoe accident involving members of the Kennedy clan, sad certainty prevails: The granddaughter of US Senator Robert F. Kennedy and her eight-year-old son are dead. On Wednesday, divers found the boy, who had been missing any trace since Thursday last week. His lifeless body was discovered in a bay in the US state of Maryland several meters underwater, around 600 meters from the place where the body of his mother Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean was found on Monday. The responsible police department said on Wednesday.

The situation had been hopeless for days. Gideon and Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean had gone out in a canoe to get a ball that had fallen into the bay while playing in the garden. They never came back. After the coast guard recovered the empty canoe, the two were considered dead.

Father and husband David McKean then changed his profile photo on Facebook: a beaming family of five looks into the camera. McKean lovingly describes his wife and eldest son in an entry in which he reports about the accident. “You could hear Maeve’s laugh a block away – and she laughed a lot. She was magical. ”With regard to Gideon, he was always worried that he was“ too perfect to exist in this world ”. The seven-year-old daughter Gabriella and the two and a half-year-old son Toby are also left behind.
