PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday told peoples’ representatives that they need not worry too much about the coronavirus as the state government was taking all necessary steps to check spread of the epidemic disease.
Addressing the elected representatives of three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and urban local bodies (ULBs) through video conferencing from the CM residence here, Nitish also said his government has pulled up necessary funds from different pools and would ensure proper treatment of all corona-infected patients from its own resources.
He said people of Bihar, who are currently stranded at different places outside the state would be provided necessary assistance from the CM relief fund, while those migrant workers who have returned the state would be provided necessary help from the disaster management department. “The officers, doctors and all other employees of the health department are working hard round the clock to provide necessary treatment to suspect cases of corona and check its further spread,” CM assured the members of grass-root democracy.
Repeatedly reminding the PRIs and ULBs members about the importance of ‘social distancing’ in checking further spread of corona virus, CM said altogether 23 positive cases of coronavirus and one death was reported from Bihar till Wednesday.
He said more than 3,000 people stranded outside the state made calls on the phone numbers of Bihar government in the last 4 to 5 days and sought assistance. As per the details provided by them, around 1.60 lakh people from Bihar were still stranded outside the state.
CM said the state has a total of 1.68 crore ration card holders. As per its previous announcement, the state government begun sending Rs 1,000 per family in their bank accounts from Wednesday itself.
CM further asked the district magistrates to take feedback from the PRIs members on how to deal with the unprecedented situation in villages due to the return of migrant workers following lockdown.
